1.     Action Points
·       Charlie pointed out that I made a mistake on the last minutes about painting the deck we need to paint it with black emulsion.
·       Alisienne Leaves have been purchased; Carly has requested 500 petals to be purchased.
·       Adam we no longer need the soil for the set.
·       Marc has arranged to record the announcements on Thursday 24th in Studio 1.

2.     Rehearsal update
·       I have emailed out the rehearsal timetable, the Thursday full run through 4-6
·       Adam to tape out the stage plan in 208

3.     Set / Props
·       Alisienne has created a props list and is working with Matthew from MT to source the props. The wooden chairs that are required, Nick suggested to ask Tynemouth Priory and Marc suggested the People’s Theatre.
·       The Stage plan has changed and is now 20ft wide, 16ft deep and 3ft high with four sets of treds.
·       Carly would like a pit to be used in Act 2, the actors will close it, in order to open the trapdoor a member of the stage crew will be under the deck to open it up. The trapdoor needs to be made w/c28th April
·       Need to make steps for the back of the stage w/c 28th April
·       The leaves are to be stuck down the edges of the corridor and around the door with blue tac and they are to be removed in the interval.
·       Carly is unsure about chalking the deck.

4.     Lights – Any haze? Fire alarm isolation?
·       Vicki discussed her gel colour choice with Carly after the meeting.
5.     Sound
·       The backing tracks are now being replaced with a live band which will be placed at the front of the auditorium instead of rows AA and BB, there are about 6 people in the band.
·       House Music – Carly is deciding between having no music on and having the audience come into silence or having music played from the 19th century.
·       There is now a piano for Act 1 which is to be placed DSR to be removed for Act 2
·       Need Church bells sound effect  for ACT 2 Scene 5 and Act 2 Scene 9



6.     AV
·       There is no AV, full blacks to be used all of the way through the show.
7.     FOH
·       I have spoken to Craig and we have put the show into the system with the ticket prices, Carly has asked if the open dress is going to be ticketed.
·       There are currently no school groups coming to the show.
·       Interval Announcements, an announcement has been added to the programme
·       There will be a foyer announcement made by one of the ensemble standing on the steel table to introduce the show.
8.     Schedule
·       Myself, Vicki and Nicky will be starting the on stage fit up w/c 5/05/14
·       I will send out a draft schedule.

10.  Questions
·       The MT students would like to do a photo shoot in the studio theatre Friday 25/04/14.
·       Media will be filming the show from the first floor, Marc has suggested to use both Digico’s to record the show.

Happy Days 14/04/14 - 19/04/14


On the 17th April I went to see the brand new musical 'Happy Days' at the Sunderland Empire. The entire show was done on a cyc at the back of the stage. I felt this was very effective way of opening the area up with the use of colour. As the show was always colourful the use of the cyc made the space look wider when the brighter colour were portrayed into it.

The use of a false floor was again I felt effective. The false floor was white, which again reflected the light very well adding to the 'musical' scenes as it lifted the scene as the light appeared to be all around them. When it needed to however like in the evening scenes, the blue wasn't reflected as much and made the scene more initmate which was needed in some scenes.

The colour choice was very musical theatre and associated with the happy days theme. Bright.

Rehearsals

Over the easter holidays I attended some of the rehearsals that were ran. Than ones that I felt would be more beneficial for me and my purpose would be to see the full run throughs or rehearsals with all cast members. This is because I needed to see scenes in context with the rest of the play plus all cast members in case specific lighting elements were needed for example 'specials'. 

While attending these rehearsals I made several notes in the script that I had been given at the beginning of this project, this would later help me to create an initial cue sheet. I was also able to make a quick sketch of a plan in the back of the script based on the rehearsals I had scene. From this I went away and wrote up all the notes I need to continue.

Text Breakdown and Initial Cue Sheet

A text break down is the lighting designers initial response to the script when first opening it. It is the information gained from reading through the script that will help you make an initial cue sheet. An initial cue sheet can be made when attending rehearsals and more detail is gained. It is best to have an initial cue sheet when plotting a show to keep a record of the ideas you had for throughout the play. For Spring Awakening, I have combined the two using the details from the script and the details I came across when attending rehearsals.

1.     Action Points
·       Everyone introduced themselves to Adele and Lucy
·       Went through the action points from last PM Meeting
o   Alisienne – has found leaves which are to be autumn colours and rose petals which are to be red and white, they are packs of 150 for 39p. The leaves are £16.98 for 1000 and are from China so need to be purchased as soon as possible.
o   Adam – Soil 10l for £1.20 at B&Q and Chalk Paint 3 for 2 £16.89
o   Marc – Mic Plot has been started but no recordings have been booked


2.     Rehearsal update
·       Easter holidays Monday – Thursday 10am-4pm W/C 14th April
·       After holidays the schedule hasn’t been made


3.     Set / Props
·       Alisienne and Adam have now met with Matthew and have a copy of the props list so far. It is now their responsibility to keep in touch with him and make sure all the props are ready for the show
·       Paper Aeroplanes – Week of Easter rehearsals try out the paper planes in the theatre. There is no access to the theatre on Thursday the 17th due to tension grid inspection.
·       The 2 graves, Chris has suggested using trap doors in the deck to lift up for them that way the support will be there and then use Darren’s idea of the deck underneath lined with the tarpaulin with the soil on.
·       Nick has said why use chalk paint when we can just chalk on the deck as it is

4.     AV
·       The AV will not be used during the songs
·       Carly will make final decisions on the Cyc and full blacks the week after Easter


5.     FOH
·       Ticket prices, £7 adults, £5 concessions & £2.50 college students
·       The Balcony seats need to be taken out, this may be an issue as they are awkward to put back and need to be signed off before used again.
·       Using the front two rows AA and BB
·       Need FOH to usher the audience out of the auditorium in the intervals
o   Put an announcement about the interval in the programme – Adele has been informed about this
o   Signs pre warning audience about the interval
o   Record an announcement
o   Matinees need FOH to look after schools (having a meeting with Fiona Wednesday 26th March about staffing)
·       Door Signs telling audience about references in the play, age restriction 15 and leaving at the interval, Carly will inform the schools of the references and they will attend on the understanding of it being an educational performance.

6.     Budget
·       There is NO budget so the Musical Theatre students are going to fund raise


7.     Schedule
·       Show times are 1pm and 7pm with a 20minute interval.
·       Running Time approx. 2hrs 20mins
·       Carly requires spacing time in the theatre

8.     H & S
·       Kristy to send Hannah the fire watcher forms and Fire Isolation forms.


9.     Lights and Sound
·       Need to have a separate meeting with Carly during the Easter holiday rehearsals
